I have a phobia when it comes to dentists, the dentists themselves don’t really scare me… I just have this godawful fear of a dentist accidentally knocking one of my teeth loose/out when he or she is cleaning them.

I had a cavity on the side of one of my molar teeth that the dentist filled in with a filling, but it came out and parts of the surrounding tooth have chipped. Now about 1/3 of the side of my molar (I think that its #3… on bottom right, 3 from back). Has anyone had anything similar happen to them. What does the dentist do? Will a crown fix it, or will a root canal also be needed, or something else. Thanks.
Also, it is very sensitive to temperature changes and is not discolored.
